Looking back on 2006, one of my milestones was being in Boulder, Colorado, for Philomena Dooley’s special topic class, Jin Shin Jyutsu for Mothers, Babies and Children.

February 11-12, 2006, forty Jin Shin Jyutsu student/practitioners gathered in Boulder, Colorado, from north, south, east and west, including the Philippines and Belgium, to learn how Jin Shin Jyutsu is related to mothers, babies, children and creation. Thank you, Billie Watkins and Andrea Ellis for your vision and efforts that birthed this learning space that is now being seeded in all directions. Thank you, Philomena, for your presence, knowledge, wisdom, experience and willingness to share with us.

The beginning of the story is how Philomena, as a nurse and a midwife, came to know and have experience with expectant mothers, birthing and babies. She has many a story to tell. Philomena brings to Jin Shin Jyutsu an intimate knowledge of pregnancy, birthing and infant care along with a heart for mothers and babies. Hearing about “the Order of Creation” is that harmony for an infant starts prenatally, before conception and during the pregnancy with how the mother’s state of being is in harmony with the Universal Harmonizing Energy. “A mother’s contentment and sense of well-being are important for the baby’s healthful development”, says Philomena.

A quote from Mary in Philomena’s notes: “Prenatal education is the most important yet the most neglected and misunderstood phase of creation…When happy ingredients are taken out, then it is the place setting for ‘labels’.”

Studying the Order of Creation brought understanding to me of how to support expectant mothers, babies and family with gentle Jin Shin Jyutsu sessions, and Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help. This understanding is helping me to discuss Jin Shin Jyutsu with expectant mothers in a different way, letting them know that this kind of harmonizing and relaxation will also help their baby. Mothers will do for their babies what they would not do just for themselves.

Looking at the Order of Creation helps me to decide what flows to apply or Self-Help to teach. When working with pregnant women admitted for hyperemesis, uncontrolled nausea and vomiting, teaching them the Self-Help of holding their fingers is first for overall harmonizing. Next is holding the 1s and having a family member palm the calves by holding the 1s and 8s. Simple seems to work best.
