An Experience of Know Myself IT IS

Siew Kuan Lee  of Freemont, California, shares “An Experience of Know Myself IT IS” in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 43, Winter 2004:

A few months back when I was going through overwhelming life changes, I constantly applied self-help to myself, or just simply held my fingers to sleep at night. Sometimes, after holding the fingers one after another, I could feel all the dirt, dust, greasy grime unloading from within, and I was left with a feeling of connectedness. However, there were times when I was so overwhelmed emotionally that nothing I did could bring me to that place of openness and connectedness.

One night, I woke up at about 3:00 a.m. and couldn’t go back to sleep. I turned on the light and reached out to my Self-Help Book 2 lying on the nightstand. As I flipped through the pages, the Safety Energy Lock 3 on page 17 caught my eyes.

It read, “3 came into the universe meaning understanding, ‘door’, defense against problems and discomforts.” The words penetrated me like light shining in a dark room. I couldn’t help as the tears rolled down from my eyes. All of a sudden, I started to get why my 3’s were always tight. I wasn’t having enough understanding of myself. Three is the breath and door of life. Three, being the trinity, represents the Mediator Flow and gives birth to relationships – the relationship I have with myself, with people around me and with the world. I started to realize what a fool I was, always wanting reality to be different and always dictating how people and things should be. I was so confused and with False Evidence Appearing Real, I lost myself and constantly looked for happiness outside myself.

On page 8, Mary says, “Self-knowledge is the KEY to be free from all miseries.” On page 18, “Self-change starts with self-study.” On page 24, “Reality is simple. Have no preferences.” On page 26, “I alone impose LIMITATIONS upon MYSELF. I alone am RESPONSIBLE for my BEING.”

As I read the pages on each Safety Energy Lock, each statement anchored me deeper into reality, and a sense of peace overcame me. Without my stories about how I think people and things should be, there were no worries, fears, anger, sadness or try to’s. At that moment, I was one without ATTITUDES…Know Myself IT IS.

Thank you, Siew.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

I’m thinking about my motives…

“Ordinarily, everything we do is in our self-interest. Everything.”
— Anthony de Mello

“Remember, most of the things you think you need are ego trips designed to bolster your image and your perception of security…. You’ll waste a lot of energy satisfying your ego only to find that, as soon as it’s got what it wants, it ignores all your efforts and promptly nails another list of demands to your forehead. The ego will always try to force you to slave for its vision. I wouldn’t stand for that BS if I were you.”
— Stuart Wilde

“We have no need to teach pure motives to the mind. All that is necessary to make the mind pure is to undo the negative conditioning to which it has been subjected; then we will be left with pure, unconditioned awareness.”
— Eknath Easwaran

Philomena Dooley Answers “A Question”

Philomena Dooley answers “ A Question” about the Supervisor and Mediator Flows in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 43, Winter 2004:

A student who was introduced to the Touch of Healing [by Alice Burmeister with Tom Monte, published by Bantam Books, ISBN 978-0-533-37784-2] noticed that the self-help for the “Supervisor” flow was 11/15, 11/25. (See page 50.)

Once reading or studying Self-Help Book 1, she noticed that on pages 18 and 19 the self-help for the “Supervisor” was the self-help for the “Mediator” flow, fig. 3 and 4. The question asked of me was, “Why?”

When we look at Self-Help Book 1 (page 19, fig. 3 and 4) we see that this is indeed the self-help for the Diagonal “Mediator” Harmonizing Energy. So how can this be the self-help for the “Supervisor” flow? I believe it is all in Safety Energy Locks 1 and 3.

The “Supervisor” Harmonizing Energy is born from within the Main Central Vertical Flow at Safety Energy Lock 1, descending and ascending the center of the left and right side of the body. At the level of Safety Energy Lock 3, the Diagonal “Mediator” Harmonizing Energy is born. The following is the flow of the “Mediator”.

LEFT “MEDIATOR” CIRCULATION PATTERN…Starts at the LEFT 3, ascends the back of the left arm, goes over the little finger, descends the front of the left arm, goes diagonally across the front of the left shoulder to the LEFT 22 and LEFT 13, crosses the sternum into the RIGHT 14 area, goes around the body to the RIGHT 23 and down through the coccyx, descending the back of the left leg to the LEFT 8, down into the LEFT 16, and under the sole of the left foot to the left ring toe.

Then it crosses the top of the foot to the LEFT 5, ascends the inside of the left leg to the LEFT 1, goes up the inside of the thigh to the LEFT 15, then across the floor of the pelvis. It emerges into the RIGHT 2 area, ascends the back to the RIGHT 9/10/3, goes over the back of the right shoulder, ascends the back of the right arm and goes over the right thumb.

Then it goes down the palm of the right hand, down the front of the right arm, diagonally crosses the front of the right shoulder to the RIGHT 22 and RIGHT 13, crosses the sternum to the LEFT 14, goes around the body to the LEFT 23, descends to the LEFT 2 and into the coccyx. It crosses the floor of the pelvis and descends the right thigh to the RIGHT 1, where it becomes one with the Right Descending “Supervisor” Circulation Pattern. The Right “Mediator’ flow pattern is simply opposite to that of the left. Both left and right “Mediator” flow patterns traverse the body from left to right, right to left, descending and ascending to see to it that the left and right “Supervisor” is in harmony with the Main Central Vertical Harmonizing Energy.

Note: Page 18, Self-Help Book 1 – “This is the ‘Mediator’. Therefore this energy is the cause for disharmony in the body. It is of vital importance to keep this energy functioning properly for the total supply of energy to the whole man.” – Mary Burmeister

So Safety Energy Lock 3 is the beginning of “Mediator” and Safety Energy Lock 1 is the beginning of “Supervisor” and end of “Mediator”.

The position with thumb over ring fingernail is to keep the thoracic cavity open to harmonize the descending and ascending, the exhale and the inhale.

Thank you, Philomena.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

Jin Shin Jyutsu: A Story About One

Trudy Roughgarden of Sunnyvale, CA writes “Jin Shin Jyutsu: A Story About One” in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 42, Fall 2003:

My youngest sister, Holly, has MS. She was diagnosed about 3 years ago. We get to visit each other about twice a year. She loves her Jin Shin Jyutsu sessions with me.

Her main symptom to a casual observer is a stiff-legged gait. She also experiences fatigue and spasms in the diaphragm area. Usually after one or two sessions, the diaphragm spasms stop. After about 3 days her gait shows more fluidity. When I touch her body, I feel fullness and hardness in the 14 area and two long rods that run between her 2’s and her 9’s.

When she walks, she shifts her weight from side to side onto stiff legs. After working with her 1 and 2 Flows, her torso starts to soften. As the 2’s release, her back softens, and she is able to swing her legs more forward, and her gait gains fluidity.

Other flows that she especially enjoys are the 3rd Method of Correction, which helps the 14’s and the whole nervous system; the Mediator, which helps the diagonal relationships; and the Gall Bladder Flow, which helps to open the lumbar area. Of course, the list of possibilities is endless, and I always wish I could work on her all year round.

My last visit with Holly was at the home of my parents. We had both just arrived and were sharing a bedroom. She was already tired, so I suggested that she lie in bed, and I would work with her, and it was okay if she just fell asleep. I began with the usual 1 Flow, to invite movement into the body. The difference this time was the strength of the internal message to stay with that flow for the full hour, almost as if I didn’t dare move so that she could! I did spend an hour or more on those 3 simple steps. Holly fell fast asleep after about 20 minutes.

After that flow, I decided to go to bed. Since I was still awake, I started to read. All was quiet for about an hour when suddenly I heard Holly shout out very loudly, while still sound asleep, “COME ON EVERYBODY, LET’S GO. WE’VE GOT TO GET MOVING. LET’S GO!” I smiled a big smile, lay back and didn’t even mind lying awake for half the night. After that night, I will never underestimate the power of ONE.

Thank you, Mary, for this great gift of Jin Shin Jyutsu.

Thank you, Trudy.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

I’m thinking I believe…

“What you believe yourself to be, you are.”
— Claude M. Bristol

Do you believe, deep down inside of you, that you can succeed in what you want to do?

Beliefs are strong, and they have the power to attract what is believed to us. If we doubt our ability to succeed, if we in fact believe we WON’T succeed, then sure enough, that’s what will happen.

What do you believe about yourself? You have the power to change your beliefs, and that will change your outcome. Set goals you believe you can accomplish. Your beliefs will shape your actions. As you achieve these goals, you’ll begin to believe you are capable of succeeding and of doing even more.

“It is better to believe than to disbelieve; in so doing you bring everything to the realm of possibility.”
— Albert Einstein

“Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.”
— Dr. David Schwartz

A Letter from Birgitta and Aino Meinhardt

Birgittta and Aino Meinhardt write a letter to their Jin Shin Jyutsu friends in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 42, Fall 2003:

Dear Jin Shin Jyutsu friends,

In the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13, we are given seven parables of the Heavenly Kingdom. One of them is: “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

“KNOW MYSELF IT IS”, is the phrase Mary repeats again and again in the second Self-Help Book.

The SELF in us, our SELF, is often described as light in us. We are dealing with the task of tending, keeping and developing this light. The light in us, our SELF, is our connection to the spiritual world. We cannot force the growth of our consciousness, our connection to spirit, but we can prepare the ground for planting the mustard seed so it will grow and bring the harvest.

With the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a spiritual impulse came into the world, so we will relate not only with matter anymore, but we will connect ourselves with spirit. On a path such as this, the power of Christ is with us. In Jin Shin Jyutsu this connection is the Jumper Cable energy (JC is the initials of Jesus Christ.)

Until the time of Jesus Christ, spirituality was a gift from above, Inspiration.

The new thought is that we are able to acquire all wisdom ourselves through awareness and understanding, so we will come to the same results as the ancient wisdom. This is the path from simple belief to knowledge. Mary says, “I am my own testimony.” To paraphrase…I don’t just believe, I experience and live the connection myself, to come to a deep inner belief.

We speak about miracles if lack and disorder are replaced through abundance and order. The miracle is just to learn to see the coherence. This is a long process of ripening, of Discrimination. Discrimination is connected to Safety Energy Lock 6. 6 is also the number of unconditional love.

From Matthew, Chapter 13, verses 14-15:

You shall indeed hear but never understand. And you shall indeed see but never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest they should perceive with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn to me to heal them.

Mary Burmeister writes in her 3rd Self-Help Book, page 2: “The INDEX FINGERS, when not in harmony, are the source for all LACKS. Lack…begins to cause FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real). One is only able to “look” and “hear” instead of really able to SEE and LISTEN… Therefore, let us continue to LISTEN and SEE, and not be trapped by reactions to actions and past experiences. Know Myself BE IT (Infinite Truth), IS (Infinite Self), IS (Impersonal, no attitude, Self).”

We are deeply thankful for the path we walk together with you and for all the wonderful presents we receive through Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy. We wish you a blessed and peaceful Christmastime, and best wishes for the New Year.

Birgitta and Aino

Thank you, Birgitta and Aino.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

I’m thinking about my ego…

“One of the great dangers of transformational work is that the ego attempts to sidestep deep psychological work by leaping into the transcendent too soon. This is because the ego always fancies itself much more ‘advanced’ than it actually is.”
— Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson

The Tibetan teacher, Chogyam Trungpa, warned of the trap of spiritual materialism. He says we must be ever diligent to spot the ego’s use of the spiritual journey to further its own ends.

We may think it’s spiritual to yearn for divine connection. And yet, if the longing is to fill an emptiness inside, just how does this differ from the one who yearns for money or possessions to fill the inner void? Do we look to our spiritual practices as proof of our evolved consciousness or as protection against fears?

Any time we use spiritual disciplines to maintain our identity and security, we are not yet on the path of genuine spiritual development.

“Enlightenment is ego’s ultimate disappointment.”
— Chögyam Trungpa

The Journey Continues…Pat’s Inspirations

Carolynn Conley (Houston, TX) and Patricia Meador (Scottsdale, AZ) write “The Journey Continues…Pat’s Inspirations in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 42, Fall 2003:

July 28, 2003 – At the recent Journey Continues seminar in Scottsdale, David Burmeister welcomed everyone and introduced Pat Meador, a lifelong student and friend of Mary Burmeister. Pat has been serving the Jin Shin Jyutsu community for almost 30 years at the Scottsdale office. Pat graciously welcomed us and commended the love and devotion of the three senior instructors, Muriel Carlton, Philomena Dooley and Wayne Hackett. Pat shared inspiring thoughts with the gathering. We were so touched by her visions for serving and healing the people of Earth that I am sharing them in her own words.

“I am always excited when I see a Jin Shin Jyutsu student on my appointment schedule. I would love to share an hour with each of you. When I first learned Jin Shin Jyutsu, Mary came to our area on Sundays. I would drive from Hemet, California, to Palm Springs to listen to Mary talk about the Safety Energy Locks.”

“As I studied with Mary, she suggested that I practice Jin Shin Jyutsu. She said if I would jump off the diving board, she felt I would find every moment different and every moment exhilarating…and what a journey it is! It is a long and endless journey, which is one of the things which makes it so special. I call it long because Mary said she would give each of us fifty years to learn and study the Art. I like to remember her telling me that, because it tells me I have a little more time before I can be judged too harshly about what I know or don’t know. I just know I am no longer ‘trying to’ know, rather, I am just wanting to know.”

“Mary told us about the equipment that we have. She said we are energy and that energy does not tire. So, we have an inexhaustible supply of energy, an inexhaustible source of energy. I believe I heard or read someplace that all the power in the universe is in each of us. So, we have our equipment – we are well equipped. We can travel from city to city knowing that we can never leave anything of real value behind us…including fingers!”

“Mary said that when she was asked by her teacher if she would like to study with him, she said, ‘Alright’, but as time passed and as she studied, she realized the responsibility behind his request. Surely we know that she did not neglect any responsibility, and so we are blessed. All parts of the world are blessed. She is an indescribably special lady.”

“So, we have studied, and I/we can accept responsibility. We could eliminate the need for all mental wards in hospitals and all penitentiaries. All we need do is release Safety Energy Locks. Mary said if there were no blocked Safety Energy Lock 12’s in the world, there would be no need for mental or penal institutions. All we need do is release 12’s, right mental and left destructive.”

“We have a really large project before us, so we may need a larger work force. I have always said we need a minimum of two Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioners in every city block, and there are many cities and many city blocks. Many have said that Jin Shin Jyutsu should be taught in the public schools, starting with kindergarten through high school, and we could add to that the private schools and home study courses. What about making Jin Shin Jyutsu compulsory study courses for nurses? Nurses could work with patients, and the patients would enthusiastically take Jin Shin Jyutsu to their families. Mental and penal institutions would be obsolete by then; then we can work on helping Medicare to recognize Jin Shin Jyutsu. Then the whole world would be healthy. Of course, there might be some people still accident prone, so we might still need a few hospitals. (The whole room laughed.)”

“I like to dream, and another dream is that these three instructors live in Scottsdale between their travels to other places.”

“One more ‘Mary said’ – From time to time, I would hear her say, ‘Pat loves everyone unconditionally.’ I do, and I bless each of you on your joyous journey. Thanks to these three instructors – these three wise ‘men’ – we thank them for leading us on this most exhilarating journey.”

“I should have warned them that if they gave me a soap box, I would take all of their time.”

Pat stepped down to a standing ovation. She received many hugs and left the room to another standing ovation. The Universe blesses the worldwide Jin Shin Jyutsu community through Pat.

Thank you, Carolynn.

Thank you, Pat.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

I’m thinking about taking a step…

“What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step.”
— Antoine De Saint-Exupery

Does the prospect of changing and growing seem monumental to you? Just too much to tackle?

Then consider this approach. Take a simple step of affirming your openness to experience more or something new. Or a different first step might be to let go of judgment by embracing the neutral. Begin to see the people, activities and things around you as neither good nor bad.

A journey is made of many small steps. Don’t focus on a far-off destination if you’re not clear how to get there. Build a foundation that is solid for you. We get to new places one step at a time.

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
— Martin Luther King, Jr.

“One may walk over the highest mountain one step at a time.”
— John Wanamaker

Kato Sensei: A Small Gem

Ariela Lois Mirkin writes “A Small Gem from the Class with Kato Sensei” in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 42, Fall 2003:

A baby was brought to class one day so Kato Sensei could demonstrate a simple quickie, to be done for 5-10 minutes every day for one year. “It will make your baby smart”, he said. He placed one hand on the belly button, and the other on the back, directly behind the belly button. It didn’t matter which hand was front or back.

After class I was sitting by the ocean, watching the sunset, and decided to apply this quickie to myself (for my “inner child”). I used the back of my hand on my back, since that was more comfortable. I sat there, and felt first denseness between my hands, no sense of connection between belly button and back. Then I felt stirrings of life, and finally, a faint and uneven, then more steady pulse. Once this pulse was established I felt more grounded and peaceful and secure, serene and centered.

I give myself this quickie every day, use it with clients, and teach it as self-help, with clients and in self-help classes. I used it with a boy who often got into trouble for aggressive/excitable behaviors, and he has calmed down significantly. It was the only intervention he eagerly accepted. One client was undergoing a surgical procedure and panicked when the anesthesiologist appeared, since she often had adverse reactions to anesthetics. She remembered this quickie and applied it. She immediately calmed down and the surgery went smoothly.

I think of this as a quickie for the Main Central, bringing us into manifestation and helping all ascending and descending energy in the body.

Thank you, Kato Sensei…and thanks to everyone who made that wonderful class possible.

Thank you, Ariela.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.
