Ariela Lois Mirkin writes “A Small Gem from the Class with Kato Sensei” in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 42, Fall 2003:
*******************
A baby was brought to class one day so Kato Sensei could demonstrate a simple quickie, to be done for 5-10 minutes every day for one year. “It will make your baby smart”, he said. He placed one hand on the belly button, and the other on the back, directly behind the belly button. It didn’t matter which hand was front or back.
After class I was sitting by the ocean, watching the sunset, and decided to apply this quickie to myself (for my “inner child”). I used the back of my hand on my back, since that was more comfortable. I sat there, and felt first denseness between my hands, no sense of connection between belly button and back. Then I felt stirrings of life, and finally, a faint and uneven, then more steady pulse. Once this pulse was established I felt more grounded and peaceful and secure, serene and centered.
I give myself this quickie every day, use it with clients, and teach it as self-help, with clients and in self-help classes. I used it with a boy who often got into trouble for aggressive/excitable behaviors, and he has calmed down significantly. It was the only intervention he eagerly accepted. One client was undergoing a surgical procedure and panicked when the anesthesiologist appeared, since she often had adverse reactions to anesthetics. She remembered this quickie and applied it. She immediately calmed down and the surgery went smoothly.
I think of this as a quickie for the Main Central, bringing us into manifestation and helping all ascending and descending energy in the body.
Thank you, Kato Sensei…and thanks to everyone who made that wonderful class possible.
Thank you, Ariela.
Thank you, Mary.
Thank you, David.
Gassho, Namaste, Blessings
