Anne Schmidt-Dahrendorf shares her thoughts in the article found in The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, issue Number 50, Fall 2005:
Jin Shin Jyutsu and Autism: The Journey Begins
When I fell seriously ill in 2000/2001, I came into contact with Jin Shin Jyutsu and could feel “the touch of healing’ on body, mind and soul. I felt intrigued and took the self-help classes 1, 2 and 3 in 2001 and practiced what I had learned. Then I wanted to know more and attended my first 5-day class in Hamburg, Germany, in April 2002. Jed Schwartz was the instructor. I couldn’t listen and write fast enough. A door to a fascinating new world opened up for me.
And then Jed said something that electrified me. I sat bolt upright while he explained about Safety Energy Lock 14 and its effect on autism. I got up immediately and asked, “Can the flow to unlock Safety Energy Lock 14 be applied to my son who is almost 34 years old?” In all my life I’ll never forget Jed’s answer. He said, “Start at once!”
This I did, and a door opened up for my son as well. We both went into the world of Jin Shin Jyutsu together, and it’s a togetherness I had never had before with my son.
Volker was born in 1968 and had to be operated on several times as a baby and young boy. His intestines and stomach did not work properly. He had to stay in hospital for long periods of time and so was separated from his parents during early infancy. Growing up, he developed strange forms of behavior. He didn’t communicate with his family, he hardly spoke, he didn’t seem to listen, he never looked at me or his father or his younger sister. Nobody really knew what was wrong with him. Volker and I started on a long journey from doctor to doctor, from therapy to therapy. Then there was the label “autistic behavior”.
Anyone who knows anything about autism knows that autistic children avoid being touched. I always had to be very careful when touching Volker. He, however, let me hold him during the steps of the 14 Flow, for this was the first flow I applied. The effect on Volker was wonderful – literally speaking. He relaxed thoroughly and said, “This goes right into my heart.” He could feel the course of the flow of energy in his body and said, “There it is.” For a while he even seemed to be sleeping – he used to suffer from a sleeping disorder, which he still does occasionally. The Small Intestine Flow was the next flow I gave him, for I remembered Jed saying, “…helps with speaking and movement disorders.” This flow was very powerful, too. Volker could move his feet better. He had had his left foot bandaged for several months and could very soon remove his bandages. His speech became more fluent. He wanted more sessions, and we made proper dates which he kept. For the first time in our life together I felt that I could really help him.
Since April 2002, Volker has been coming fairly regularly once a week, mostly on Sundays. We include his father, my husband, e.g. when using the opposite finger and toe flow. It even happens that the three of us have sessions one after another.
Volker is a person in his own right, different from others, but he feels much better with Jin Shin Jyutsu – and so do we. The journey continues…
