Blood Congestion, Part 2

From The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 61, Summer 2008, Matthias Roth discusses Blood Congestion which can be found in Text 2, pages 58-59. Remember that this, and all issues of The Main Central can be obtained at http://www.jsjinc.net.

“Blood Congestion”

“2. MENSTRUATION: …function energy arrives at SIDE OF NOSE…” Hmm, reproductive organ…nose…what flow would connect…? Oh, isn’t that just Kidney again! “OVARY BLEEDING: Function energy from buttock which should flow into legs…” Ah, there’s only one from buttocks down the back, same depth: Bladder Flow, that’s right!

3. With any stagnation of food, or indeed of energy in the abdominal region, think of high 1s just as you would have in your early days of simple self-help. A non-secret secret of Jin Shin Jyutsu is that the simple stuff which is such fun for the beginner for its ease is fun for the “advanced” student because he knows it works! When the label becomes more complicated or alarming, we become more simple or we’ll just be playing along with the label! …So high 1s still, even when VOMITING OF BLOOD results. Or stomach? Why not, but remember that not “everything stomach” calls for a Stomach Flow. Read how Spleen Flow, passing over the outer walls of the stomach, will compress it when in overload, which may lead to a sensitive stomach and projectile vomiting. Also study how other organ function energy go through the stomach…

Under 4, remember that ALL elimination is related to 15. Dare we be that simple? As you read of irritation, think of 8s pacifying effects. With left 8 helping the energetic causes of constipation and right 8 those of diarrhea, here’s another simple yet effective helper. Other flows come to mind? By all means, BE the Artist!

The description at 5 shows again how what is described as “blood congestion” must truly be energy congestion. Vertical sack-like accumulations of blood along the scapula would not have escaped western medicine to the point of being completely unknown. Energy congestions on the other hand that lead to bleeding would have. Congestion in the 10 area and a full stomach – congestion in the 14 – will prevent energy (not blood) from accomplishing its “appointed rounds”, up the back, down the front. Energetic damage to the heart is thus prevented by the safety factor of “blood letting” into lungs. Three is in itself a lung specialist. It also sits directly above the congested area and can therefore open a door for the congestion to be evacuated. Furthermore, 3 is the anchor for the fatigue flow which has become affected here.

The final paragraph – HEMORRHOIDS – will hold no mystery if you remember 8s from above (4) and how they help “anything rectal” (anything pelvis, in fact), and recall “energy flow into leg” from 2 above (Bladder). And in passing, the paragraph holds a great reminder about a very basic principle of life within and without: “weaker side will become cause…” reminding us to strengthen the weak side rather than accuse it.

Simple? Fun! Enjoy just staying playful with all of this, and awareness, understanding and application will abound.

Thank you, Matthias.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

Blood Congestion, Part 1

My last four posts, written by Matthias Roth, were from his article “Liquified Brain”. In that article, he referred to a previous post about Blood Congestion…seems like a good time to publish that article now.

Blood is representative of life and flow. Its composition is wondrous, and its organized circulation supplying vital substances and information to the total body simply inspiring. Bleeding on the other hand tends to alarm most all of us. That vital juice outside its vessels, life-giving order upturned: this is more than many of us can calmly deal with. It is in this context that pages 58/59 in Text 2, “Blood Congestion” deliver a simple message: not to panic when blood appears.

Mary called bleeding a “safety factor”. When under pressure from stagnant energy, the body practices, as it were, its own blood letting. So on the pages we are discussing Mary simply explains where energy is stagnant, and when we can exhale and listen, it soon becomes clear which energy. The “secret message” of these pages is not to forget what we know just because there is bleeding. We already have the keys, the solutions, the “recipes” by the time we get this far in the book. “All we need is the awareness, the understanding”, as Mary loves to repeat in her self-help books.

“When blood stagnates in muscle along spine, pushes over head and toward chest and stops, nose bleeding results.” Note that “blood” and “energy” seem to be used synonymously here, for what blood vessel would go from neck muscles over the head to chest? Blood stagnates as energy stagnates, “congealing” into physical or physically noticeable congestion. What is it that pushes over head, towards chest and stops? Supervisor energy flows in that direction harmoniously, it wouldn’t get stopped here, certainly not by stagnation in muscle along spine. Ah! Nose…neck… Kidney Function Energy harmoniously flows up through the chest, up closely by the nose, to top of head and then down along neck, very close to the spine! If it stagnates there, it will back up and…there you have it. Hence the suggestion when there is nose bleeding, simply to hold 4s close to the spine! Or to use Kidney Flow. Or to be the artist in any other way that seems appropriate once you have this awareness and understanding. Second Method of Correction used close to the center of the body: Ah, that’s why that helps with nosebleeds!

Isn’t it simple? Now can we unfold our awareness, understanding and creativity to make a similar kind of sense of the remaining five points on page 59? A few simple pointers will help us remember that we know enough, as long as we can stay calm even when there is bleeding, and become AWARE of what we know. Lets see:

“Liquified Brain” Part 4

From The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 70, Fall 2010, Matthias Roth gives us An article on Liquified Grain Function Energy and Compressed Oxygen Function Energy which can be found in Text 2, pages 60-61. Remember that this, and all issues of The Main Central can be obtained at http://www.jsjinc.net.

“Liquified Brain”

Now for Liquified Grain Function Energy: The initial description of what happens to food is closer to physical reality than what we have read about breath. Just when the text explains that “in kidney…carbohydrates (nutriment) and liquid separate”, it becomes clear that we are once again talking about energetic rather than physiological occurrences. In a healthy body, carbohydrates don’t appear in the kidneys. So we remind ourselves that the descriptions here came into being through Jiro Murai’s sensing of what went on in his body rather than opening a body up and looking within: the felt process, then, is that useful essence is separated from (useless) waste at the kidney.

The part that passes the scrutiny of our Scorpio self (Kidney Function Energy) and is recognized as nurturing,  intermingles with Spleen Function Energy, a friend we know to be the Great nurturer to all Organ Function Energy. It opens our “Gateway to the solar Ethers”, the solar plexus, which provides 7th Depth access into 6th. It also “builds, repairs and protects” my Being’s ability to sense itself in the world, to feel, to take in and sit with any experience, and to partake of the world in that way!

Once this newly combined energy meets its companion, breath essence, at the tip of the third toe, the two join forces and embark upon a rather central journey up. Through that fourth lumbar vertebra, which is key in Third Depth’s Gall Bladder Function Energy, the clarifying Aquarian aspect of your Being, and great “sorter-outer” of things (cf. pg. 40 in Text 2), it rejoins 6th Depth at umbilicus (Earth, or Creation, in Kojiki), there to divide into two flows and, it seems, two levels – one returning to breath essence energy (Compressed Oxygen Function) while the other pursues its ascent to the head (Heaven, or Source, in Kojiki), there to join Breath Essence (Main Central Vertical) in its systematic nurturing of the twelve-energy that we know from pages 42 and 43.

Now all is complete, is it not? Full cycle, Spirit to matter and back, it is the journey that we ARE, the journey we are here to ENJOY! And such is the mystery of life. We who in the formless, are complete, are ALL before we ever come here to become THIS, are nonetheless nurtured, completed, augmented and expanded for having been HERE, for having been THIS, for having fed upon and breathed…experience!

Seen in this way, these last two pages can make you fall in love again with THIS world without ever needing to forget your Formless Essence. Isn’t it FUN?

Thank you, Matthias.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

“Liquified Brain” Part 3

From The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 70, Fall 2010, Matthias Roth gives us An article on Liquified Grain Function Energy and Compressed Oxygen Function Energy which can be found in Text 2, pages 60-61. Remember that this, and all issues of The Main Central can be obtained at http://www.jsjinc.net.

“Liquified Brain”

“Breath becomes compressed by Liver Function Energy.” Ah! Had you noticed the overlap between the beginning of Lung Function Energy, described on pg. 10 as being “in stomach” and the end of Liver Function Energy, described on page 34 as flowing “…into lung”? Liver Function Energy completes the journey of the becoming, or manifesting, of Man and sends it off into its next round. It is the diving into wordless (unutterable) Oneness with BEING before we start anew in active, singular individuality as the Aries of the next dawn. Third Depth is indeed the “beginning and developing source of Life”!

From this understanding, the overlap at the turning of Liver Function Energy into Lung Function Energy, rather than seeming incongruent, appears as the appropriate place for the “compression”  of breath to occur – its transformation into energetic essence. Liver, “the closest thing to the Creator that Man can conceive of”  (Paracelsus as quoted by Mary), “compresses” or “liquifies” the essence of what and how we have breathed, i.e., it derives from it usable vital energy. This nurturing, renewing essence emerges to central 9 from where it makes its way down through the body to a toe we already know to be a nurturer: the third toe, which is a key in the Stomach Function Energy. Here it meets up with the energetic essence derived from food, Liquified Grain Function Energy.

Take a moment to ponder the relationship between Breath Essence, 6th Depth, Source-of-Life-Energy, brought into manifestation through the (little) source of life energy that is 3rd Depth, to build the vessel for physical breath, the lung. The essence of physical breath then is “compressed” by that same 3rd Depth and ultimately taken back to center, the big Breath of Life. From Source/Breath/through source to breath and back…quite the journey we were talking about in the first paragraph, or in the first two!

“Liquified Brain” Part 2

“Liquified Brain”

Return to your understanding of numbers from Self-Help level and add to that some body awareness in those places where the Safety Energy Locks live: with 1 being the original exhalation, energy into matter, living at the knee where we bend, 2 is the first receiving, the original arising of matter into spirit. Two lives at the edge of the pelvis and opens this basin into which the abundance of life is received. Held here, released here, the abundant nourishment of Life – awareness, food and experience – becomes fertile and begets all of existence.

Steeped in this understanding from Self-Help Book II and our learning of the meaning of the Safety Energy Locks, let’s continue – we have only just commented on sentence 1, on page 60, Text 2.

The next three sentences speak of Heaven, Earth and Man, of 13, 15, 14 – of struggle, and of peace. We won’t go into the Three Methods of Correction here (but we could!), not into Ectoderm, Endoderm and Mesoderm or Surface, Deep and Middle Flows, we’ll simply note: “Beginning” of food essence and “ending” of breath essence meet at central 13. “Beginning” of breath essence and “ending” of food essence meet at central 15. And any struggle between them will take place in central 14. The message is old, and reliable: any imbalance between Heaven (13) and Earth (15) will show up in Man (14) as a struggle.

And we won’t go into page 4 of Text 2 here, but we’ll just remember that page’s insistence that whoever wins in a struggle will cause the entire system to fail.

As we read on to the next page, “PRODUCTION AND CIRCULATION OF COMPRESSED OXYGEN FUNCTION ENERGY AND LIQUIFIED GRAIN FUNCTION ENERGY”, we find that the terms “beginning” and “ending” on the previous page are not quite right: not “beginning” because the coming into being of the two functions is described differently here and not linked to the two spots mentioned; not “ending” because they don’t seem to end at all but rather flow on endlessly.

“Breath through nostrils ascends into head…” Like in our discussion of Blood Congestion some time ago (Issue #61, pg. 4), where “blood” in many contexts seemed to stand for “energy”, we find the description of what “breath” does to sound, rather like a description of where we FEEL the breath and its immediate effects if we follow it with any awareness. An energetic awareness of the breath seems to be what is described here rather than the physical flow of air, as what is called “breath” here only rejoins the trachea after the third thoracic vertebra.

“Liquified Brain”

Come those final minutes of the five-day class in which to look at the last two pages of the second Text Book, there is often next to no brain capacity left for comprehending anything new. On the preceding 125 pages, one has studied the story of energy becoming matter. Now matter needs to be energized – quite like the subject matter one is steeped in, which, at this point, is calling for experience, rest and reflection.

To a fresh mind, this may just be what pages 60 and 61 of Text 2 are talking about…while the whole story of Jin Shin Jyutsu is also found on these pages – as on so many pages of Mary’s books when read with awareness and understanding. So let’s play, and take a stroll through these pages to see what we find there.

What makes these pages unique is that here, matter is transformed into energy, and the energy thus obtained goes to nurture the invisible energy system that is forever forming the physical vessel for this energetic being. We have studied that system intensely at this point in the Text1/Text 2 sequence, and we know: From within the Main Central Vertical, energy is a Left and a Right, and returns to center. From within Trinity, energy is a Twelve and returns to center. From within that center, energy “denses” down to become 144,000 [special body function flows] and, finally, the physical body.

This physical body seems to partake of the material world in two ways principally: as physical breath through the lungs and as physical food through the mouth and digestive system. There is another, possibly less obvious aspect of nourishment, of partaking of the physical world, which doesn’t seem to get discussed here until we have a closer look later – partaking of the world through the senses, sensual ingestion of and interaction with the world. Experience – Presence – Being there. The latter is quite possibly the reason we have come here in the first place – to experience the world, interact with it, be affected by it, and thus changed and enriched.

But back to grain and oxygen for a moment: Eat, and your body will derive from your food an essence that nurtures the total being. Breathe, and your body will derive from the air an essence that will do the same. The distribution of this nurturing essence is supervised by Umbilicus, the great nurturer – and Suprarenal Function Energy. These two in turn are related to 2, the great nurturer, if you remember that Kidney and Umbilicus Function Energy are felt on deep ring finger pulses (hip line ascending). Equating Suprarenal (Adrenal) Function Energy with Kidney Function Energy is a slight oversimplification, but indulge me for the sake of the point I’m making; The receiving and distribution of this regenerative essence is governed by “Twoness” – Life Force for all Creatures.

The Dance of the Eight Magical Mudras, Part 3

From The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 70, Fall 2010, Anita Willoughby shares her experience throughout the movement of the mudras in Text 1, page 47:

…Magical Mudras

In the sixth mudra, the activity of life is merged and sealed with breath, the fundamental activity and rhythm/movement of life. The sixth mudra seals the thumb with the ring finger, establishes or draws forth the Breath of 6th Depth. The ring finger is 2nd Depth, and the Lung Flow envelops the thumb. The number six is the number of balance. And according to the Chinese, “Six Breaths produced all things in silence.

The seventh and eighth mudras bring both left and right sides together again through the middle finger. With the seventh mudra, we bring the palms together, left and right sides joined, middle fingers extended, and we exhale. No sooner have we exhaled and come together as one microcosm of the macrocosm on planet earth, than we inhale, roll the tips of our middle fingers – back sides together (heaven world), and ascend from the earth back toward heaven on the eighth and final mudra.

We begin the mudras with an exhale, (descending to earth) and end with an inhale (ascending to heaven). We begin and end these eight mudras by completing the movement of the breath, down the front and up the back. The first two mudras and the last two mudras are focused on the middle finger. The middle of anything is the harmonizer. The middle of our body on the vertical axis is the MCVUHE (Main Central Vertical Universal Harmonizing Energy), the spine, the middle finger of our hand, bot represent our MCVUHE and is our 3rd Depth.

Third Depth is the binder, which binds “that which is above to that which is below.’ Third Depth has a special relationship with the Diagonal Mediator Universal Harmonizing Energy, the activity principle. By sealing and drawing forth delight through our middle fingers (both at the beginning and at the end of these eight mudras), we have gone beyond the limits of the earthly plane to connect to infinite possibilities.

To become the creator of our lives, we have to become magicians. We have these eight mudras to help us in this process. Memorize the dance of the eight mudras until their movement becomes second nature to create miracles in our lives. When we practice these mudras, we are in the rhythm of creating and recreating our lives.

The Magician is the second card in the Tarot deck, with the numerical value of one. The Magician has a figure eight, the infinity sign, as a halo directly above his head; one hand holds a wand and reaches toward heaven, the other hand points toward earth. Become the Magician, practice the mudras to create movement, music and miracles in life. This whole process is still a mystery, which our mystics have pondered forever.

These mudras facilitate the moment when breath creates space in matter, time begins and the miracle of life unfolds.

Thank you, Anita.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

I’m thinking about squeezing your hand…

WISDOM

“…we need to abandon the idea that wisdom is knowing everything-the whys, the wherefores, the how-tos. Wisdom is often more subtle, both far simpler and exceedingly more complex. For wisdom requires the discerning, the listening to, the acknowledgement of nudges and notions, of senses and sensations, of the minute and what we often mistakenly assume is the mundane. Wisdom means listening to the still, small voice, the whisper that can be easily lost in the whirlwind of busyness, expectations, and conventions of the world….”
— Jean M. Blomquist

“Nine-tenths of wisdom is appreciation. Go find somebody’s hand and squeeze it, while there’s time.”
— Dale Dauten

“To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Dance of the Eight Magical Mudras, Part 2

From The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 70, Fall 2010, Anita Willoughby shares her experience throughout the movement of the mudras in Text 1, page 47:

…Magical Mudras

in the process of writing this article on the mudras, I went over my notes and came across a simple expression in one of my earliest classes. The mudras are the “start of all this”, the start of Jin Shin jyutsu. By this time, most of us know the story of Jiro Murai in his family’s mountaintop cabin, where he used fasting, meditation, prayer and mudras to heal himself. He stayed for seven days, and on the morning of the eighth day he woke up and was healed. A miracle had happened there – eight mudras for a miracle.

It has been said that mudras, finger positions, finger poses, are the first language of man. We communicate with our fingers before speaking with our mouth and tongue. Indeed many of us still use our fingers, our hands, and our arms to support verbal speech. The hands are connected to the speech center of the brain. In yoga the touching of the fingertips has been proven to help harmonize the brain. The language of the hands is the oldest form of communication – communication before the spoken word.

A few years ago, while staying with organizers Maurice and Roberte, in Genk, Belgium, I had the opportunity to experience mudras as the first method of communication. Playing with their two children, Lore and Roos-je, where we didn’t share a common language, I suddenly found myself showing them the mudras. And from there we proceeded to have a conversation with our fingers. We had a dance of the fingers where we spoke non-verbally and created a magical relationship. We spoke with these ritualized hand gestures and circulated spiritual/universal energy. Through this process, I began to understand the language of fingers and pre-verbal communication.

Another quality of the eight is “get in rhythm with the universe”. The rhythm of exhale/inhale is immediately established and continued throughout the movement of the mudras in Text 1, page 47. This basic pattern (exhale/inhale, involution/evolution, contraction/expansion) connects us to the primary rhythm of life. Therefore, these eight mudras help us get in rhythm with the universe in order to create miracles in our lives.

The first four of the eight mudras connect us with our Trinity Flow, the energetic pattern of creation we study in Text 1; which includes the Main Central Vertical Universal Harmonizing Energy and the Left and Right Major Vertical Supervisor Universal Harmonizing Energy. With these four mudras, we energize our Trinity Flow and lay the groundwork for bringing ourselves into the material world, the four being the number of form, the number of the material world and exactly one-half of the number eight.

These first four mudras utilize the left hand, the left side of the body, energy of generation, our descending, exhaling and masculine energy. Through the Trinity Flow, the dynamic activity of the Diagonal Mediator Universal Harmonizing Energy is released. The next mudra, the fifth mudra in this sequence, actively connects left hand/left side with right hand/right side – past with present, exhale with inhale, masculine with feminine. A seal is created through the thumb and middle finger of the right hand and the thumb of the left hand, to seal left and right, to seal duality and ensure the wedding of opposites for the activation of life.

To be continued…
