Sharing Awareness

…as contributed to The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 9, Summer 1995 issue by Phyllis Singer…

“My beginnings in Jin Shin Jyutsu in 1977 inspired me to write this article. Being a seeker I studied on a friend’s recommendation and a whim. The first day of listening to Mary in class nearly catapulted my skeptical self onto the nearest plane back to Florida. That first night, after class, Mary gave me my first session, and I was hooked.

At that time I was the only JSJ student I knew of in Florida. Applying this Art to others and watching the results gave me faith that this precious Art from Japan, revived by Jiro Murai and delivered to us by Mary Burmeister, was something that would benefit all. However, conveying that was tough, and for the first ten years, I found myself at a loss in sharing the essence of this magnificent Art without directly applying jumper cables.

Of course, living in Cosmic Flow while jumper cabling others expanded my awareness allowing me to see what was blocking me. Jin Shin Jyutsu is invisible, and modern western society has difficulty accepting that which we can’t see, calling it unscientific. Our medicine for decades has almost exclusively focused on the details of disease rather than exploring wholeness/wellness.

The scientific method, which emphasizes proving something, reflects a mass consciousness in our society. Those first ten years of my own limited belief system had me sharing technique and minutia instead of introduction Jin Shin Jyutsu as an Art of living. My ability to share expanded by my consciousness and the question that arose “How do I introduce this Art to a society with habits and attachments to proving, ‘seeing is believing’, the Art of non-preferential listening, feeling and trusting?”

So the question arises, what is the meaning of sharing-awareness? A meaning for “share” is to partake of, use, experience or enjoy with others; meanings for “awareness” are consciousness, realization, perception or knowledge. One understanding of sharing-awareness could be enjoying consciousness with others.

Mary so expertly shares awareness. For instance, in her self-help books she says “Be the Smile”. The origins of “smile” trace back through Middle English to the Old English word smerian, to laugh, and the Latin world, merari, to wonder. She says so much with her simple words that if one desires to research sharing-awareness, there is no need to look any further than Mary’s self-help books. Throughout this article I will refer to Mary’s self-help books. I invite you to read/re-read them.”

To be continued…

Thank you, Master Jiro.

Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, David.

Thank you, Phyllis.

Thoughts on Number 5

Contributed by Louanne Ellis, The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 8, Spring 1995.

“The familiar figure drawn by Leonardo da Vinci of a perfectly proportioned man within a circle, suggesting a star, is a classic representation of five as the number of man. Unlike the animals which commonly have four feet on the ground, man is upright with his head as the crown of the star, symbolizing consciousness.

Geometrically, five is the pyramid and signifies elevation above the material and biological plane (numbers one through four). It symbolizes consciousness transcending the four elements, four corners, four seasons and four directions.

Man is distinguished from the animal kingdom by his self-consciousness or awareness, giving him the capacity to adapt. Man, through his consciousness, is able to modify his environment, creatively manipulating materials to meet his needs.

Paul Case, in his book The Tarot, expresses the opinion that adaptation is the meaing of number 5. I think, underlying the concept of adaptation, that number five means the development of consciousness, most specifically the mind, and the potential for transcendence.

Five is the first safety energy lock in the second depth. The first depth corresponds to the element earth, and the four safety energy locks represent the four elements and the building blocks for the manifestation of life. The second depth is ruled by Air, which represents the mind, the intellect and communication. Five, the first safety energy lock on the second depth, is the beginning of this process of self-awareness. The results of this process are keyed into the nature of two, whose name is Wisdom on the Tree of Life. (The Tree of Life is the diagram that contains the symbols and keys to Jewish mysticism, Qabalistic philosophy and the Tarot, which are the sources of the numerical references to colors, planets, musical notes, signs, etc.).

The beginning of wisdom and self-consciousness is shown in Biblical metaphor when Eve eats from the Tree of Knowledge, resulting in the expulsion of man from the Garden of Eden. With self-awareness and self-consciousness comes the realization of “mortality” that I believe is the basis for fear, which Mary (Burmeister) associated with SEL 5. Spiritual growth and the development of consciousness is usually a painful process. Severity is the name of the first essence of number five on the Tree of Life.

The following are the meanings of number five as differentiated through its expression in the four elements in the Tarot: five of wands (fire) – strife, cruelty, violence: five of cups (water) – disappointment in love: five of swords (air) – defeat, loss, malice, spite, slander: five of pentacles (earth) – loss of profession and money. The difficulty represented in the meaning of these cards reflects the growing pains that man experiences in his spiritual evolution. It seems as if we do not spontaneously transcend effortlessly.

The lessons of the soul and the development of consciousness are normally not gained in contentment and harmony. The instinctive desire to survive that motivated early man set in motion the development of the brain and self-knowledge. It has been the struggle for survival, comfort, food, and shelter that has driven our evolution.

The Hierophant, the archetypal symbol of the number five in the major arcana of the Tarot, usually corresponds to the astrological sign of Taurus. It is the sign that signifies our material well-being and survival skills. This connects the meaning of five and the Hierophant to growth, through the challenge to survive or to achieve comfort and pleasure. The Hierophant, or the Pope, is the agent in development which symbolizes the bridge from man to God, most generally associated with the imposition of laws handed down by religions, dictating morality and conscience, which are both attributes distinctly separating man, 5, from the animal kingdom, 4.

In the body, SEL 5 is located on the ankle. This is the area ruled by Aquarius in astrology. Aquarius is a mental, air sign (second depth) whose function is ultimately to connect the mind of man with the mind of God. So again we see a confirmation and connection to the bridge between the meaning of numbers four and five. In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the bridge is between the fourth depth and the sixth depth: the capital B bridge which makes the transition from man with human intelligence to man with cosmic intelligence. The fourth depth represents the individual soul consciousness, and the sixth, the collective consciousness. The fifth depth, which inherently contains the meaning of five, is growth at the level of spirit. All safety energy locks on the fifth depth are designated as “universal’ numbers, because the Hebrew alphabet, as the story of man, is limited to twenty-two. Our English alphabet reflects our consciousness and contains twenty-six letters, which is fascinating in Jin Shin Jyutsu terms.

If SEL 5 is inhibited or blocked, then the individual will have a difficult time energetically meeting the demands of this life. Through facing our fears we liberate our mind and release the energy that will help us learn through our actions who we are. Without discipline and courage, men will truly feel afraid. The rewards of five are strength, and pitfall is fear.

Mars is the ruler of number five on the Tree of Life, and it makes sense that courage and assertiveness (Martian qualities) are required for the process of individuation and the necessary development of the ego. In the most mundane correspondence Mars also rules the instinct for survival and the procreative drive to maintain the species.

It is interesting that the sixteen, which is literally opposed to the five, is by association with Tower, the sixteen card in the Tarot, also ruled by Mars.

The ankles are important in the initiation of energy to transcend the animal kingdom at the fives, and to transcend the human kingdom at the sixteen. The five is the beginning of the second depth and the sixteen is the beginning of the third depth. All the water flows pass through the foot at the five area integrating information and experience at an emotional level for the soul’s growth.”

Louanne Ellis has studied Jin Shin Jyutsu for ten years, astrology for twenty-seven years, and the Qabala and numerology for three years. She teaches in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico and she welcomes questions and comments.

I’m thinking…

…about my judgement

18th OCTOBER 2014

Channeled by Holly Hawkins Marwood

“Greetings Dear Ones.

We are the High Council of Orion.

There is much concern and there’s much asking about the troubles in the world and on the planet, where human beings are behaving in many people’s minds inappropriately to one another. Where you can see lots of evidence of what you would say is man’s inhumanity to man. There are decisions being made by big companies and by governments that you would say are out of integrity and not respecting individuals or humanity as a whole. And the results of these decisions affect humans, they affect the planet, they affect governments and so much more.

The blessing we would say of the time in which you live is the Internet, which allows such quick and complete communication, yet it is always hard to get the complete picture and know absolutely the truth. For there is a lot of doubting in the world about anything that’s received in terms of information. Which is wise, for as you know perception is always filtered through that which is perceiving it, so there is no one person or organization who will accurately report anything. There may be a choice in what you prefer to have reported to you, but there is always a perception, a filter, and the bigger the business the bigger the filter is in terms of the point of view that is put forth.

With that being said as one is on the planet receiving this information about many levels of difficult situations from a human perspective on the planet, and particularly in 1st world countries as you call it. Where the world itself looks like survival is not in question, yet there are still many in these first world countries who are struggling to survive. Whether it’s because of violence whether it’s because of poverty whatever it might be, there are many who are suffering on that human level.

And there are many in judgment about that level of suffering. And there are many who cry out to the High Council of Orion and others to ask for help, to just come in and save us from this. We’ve addressed this before in other channelings, but we’re going to take it in a different way this time, for we wish each and every one of you to understand, that peace does not prevail because somebody else finally stops doing one thing to another.

Where you sit in your place of judgment about other people’s actions and say “if only they would stop, then peace would prevail.” When you look at it from a much higher level perspective, and understand really and truly that you live in a field of oneness, and begin to accept that the judgment of others creates a barrier to peace, as those actions of others are a barrier to peace as well. And you could say well “No, I wish for peace and those other people in this other part of the world, need to want the same thing I do,” and understand that you are all part of one collective.

And if you look at this one collective representing the many different ways that energy can project itself out into this dimension, you have a variety of experiences. What we would ask each and every one of you to do is to be in observation of the places that you’re judging the rightness and wrongness, and the goodness and the badness of things happening from the point of view of, “if they would only stop doing that then the world would be peaceful.”

For we’ll ask you to see what you can do to shift your perspective of this extreme level of judgment, for in the judgment you are creating barriers to the experience of oneness energetically in a similar way to those who are inflicting less than ideal energies on others. And while this is a challenging concept as you move forward on your ascension path and begin to really have experiences of oneness.

You will begin to see that all of humanity is feeling those feelings, and there is no separation. For if it is happening to one, it is happening to the all. So your greatest contribution to that, is you releasing the need to judge, and finding the place of peace and love within your own self that you can emanate out in whatever way you can, the best way you can, with love and compassion.

Of course setting boundaries that need to be set in your own world, but within that, instead of emanating judgment and anger and frustration, finding that place of peace within you has this enormous ripple effect out into all of humanity.
For we would share with you that this play of light and dark will not be ending in any short period of time.

Remember what is dark needs to be brought to the light. So you could judge what is happening in terms of evidence that the world is getting worse. And we could also say you could celebrate the uplifting of the things that have been buried in the dark and in ignorance, to be brought out into the light. For things cannot shift and change until they’ve been brought out into the light. And as these things are brought out into the light there is some upset and horror and disgust and humiliation and judgment around it.

Yet the judgment doesn’t change things, but the experience of finding that place of peace within your own life, and being able to connect with it and express it in your world and share it with those in your world through your thoughts and your deeds and your actions and your energy, you begin to ripple that out to allow those changes to happen slowly but surely. It does not happen in an instant, but we also ask you to not under estimate the power of your individual place of peace in shifting the world around you, which by the same token shifts the entire world.

We offered this channeling up this day not to bring people down or to cast blame in any way shape or form, but we want you to feel enlivened and heartened by a way that you can positively contribute when there are things happening that are beyond your scope, beyond your control bigger than you are or more of a global problem. And trusting that the light will prevail not going down the rabbit hole, and perhaps even turning off your TV and stop looking at the Internet if it upsets you.

And this is not to bring in ignorance but this is to bring in peace as a sacred space and the greatest contribution that you can make. This is the place of power and empowerment in contribution that you can make to the goodness of the world. For as we’ve said before and will say again, as non-physical beings we are not allowed to come into your dimension and shift the reality. That is your job to work your way through the reality in which you’ve chosen to be, however we are here to offer up advice from our perspective.

That can help move you more easily and gracefully through this transition time for you do have a place of empowerment and power within this if you know the light will prevail, and if you know your greatest contribution can be connecting in with inner peace and feeling that light within, and what ever way you do as one of your most important tasks and contributions at this time.

Doesn’t that lift your heart and give you that place that you can act from, not feeling victimized by the actions of the others on your planet at this time, who are expressing a different part of this reality drama. Play with peace, play with your point of personal power and see how it shifts your world.

Be Blessed.

We are the High Council of Orion.”

I’m thinking…

…about Tao

All the world talks about my Tao with such familiarity –

What folly!

Tao is not something found at the marketplace or passed on from father to son

It is not something gained by knowing or lost by forgetting

If Tao were like this

It would have been lost and forgotten long ago

I have three treasures that I cherish and hold dear

the first is love

the second is moderation

the third is humility

With love one is fearless

With moderation one is abundant

With humility one can fill the highest position

Now if one  is fearless but has no love

abundant but has no moderation

rises up but has no humility

Surely he is doomed

Love vanquishes all attackers

It is impregnable in defense

When Heaven wants to protect someone does it send an army?

No, it protects him with love

Cats: “They Just Know…”

I love working with animals and have experienced wonderful results. Also, I’ve had sessions myself where a cat assisted the practitioner by lying – asleep and snoring lightly – on my pubis! My own cat will jump on the table to lie by the client and bring her own healing energy into the flow.

In the Winter 1994/1995 issue of The Main Central Jin Shin Jyutsu Newsletter, Number 7, Bill Landon shares the following:

“Over the years, I’ve known a number of cats who understood well the power of Jin Shin Jyutsu. This piece is about the behavior of three such cats.

Anouk was somewhat feral, having lived her fifteen years outdoors in the deep countryside. Her life experience had given her many amazing survival skills, but we felt that her greatest talent by far was that of simply knowing when someone was getting a Jin Shin Jyutsu session. No matter where outdoor she was (on the roof, in the woodpile, or under bushes skulking for birds), she always knew when one of us laid hands upon the other to do a flow. Within moments, she would yammer and scratch at the door or climb and dangle from the window screens until, in order to preserve them, we would let her in. And once in, she would join the receiver on the bed, reach her paw for the treater’s hand and with a single huntress claw extended slightly, bring that treating hand over to her. If the treater attempted to withdraw the hand, Anouk would insist with more firmly gripping claws. When finally the second hand joined the first on her body, she would roll over and relax. She especially liked 11:15s and 11:25s, and, of course, anything on the 4s and 23s. The need Anouk felt for a Jin Shin Jyutsu treatment was expressed through her hunting instinct – a consistent technique: grab on and wait till the other acquiesced.

Years later, back in town, Kitty, our neighbor Rita’s cat, visited us most every day. She knew that I would feed her scraps. Eventually, she discovered the amazing power in Kyoko’s hands. that changed her life, and from then on she had two jobs each day; 1) to listen for Rita’s car returning home from work, bringing with it the prospect of an early dinner; and 2) to watch for Kyoko walking home, bringing with her the prospect of an early treatment. In either instance, Kitty would come yammering from her lair in the bushes. If it was Rita who arrived, Kitty would head for the door. If it was Kyoko who approached, Kitty would lovingly present herself; that is, she would roll onto her back, all four feet in the air, and crane her neck to watch for Kyoko’s hand reaching down towards her 15s. From that point on, Kitty’s behavior was much the same as Anouk’s. Each of these outdoorsy females enforced her desire for treatment with her claws, and would not relent until utterly under the flow. While Anouk was pure huntress, Kitty was somewhat domesticated, like the house cat which rewards its feeder with cute antics and loving attention after the meal. Kitty just switched the order of things around: she offered her cute approach and affectionate greeting as bait, and when the treating hand made contact, she clamped onto it firmly.

Buffy, an elderly male cat, lived with Debbie, a JSJ practitioner, who regularly saw a steady clientele in her home. In a sense, Buffy could have as much JSJ as he wished by joining Debbie’s willing clients for their sessions.

When I had my weekly session Buffy always climbed onto the bed and lay down along my main central, his head pointing the same direction as mine. He made no attempts to hog or hijack the session; he slept in a civilized way from the very beginning. But beyond that, what is truly remarkable, he was self-limiting. Even in deep slumber, Buffy seemed to know fairly accurately when he had enough. At that point, usually after half to three-quarters of an hour, he would either withdraw directly or, most interestingly of all, get up, turn around 180 degrees and lie back down on me for a while with his polarity reversed to the flow, before finally leaving the treatment area completely.

This apparent quirk cemented in my mind the belief that Buffy was a cat of rare discernment. This apparent quirk was unprejudiced behavioral testimony confirming an oft stated tip from another healing art, Bio Circuitry, that also works with the flow of life energy. There, it is said that if the receiver or self-helper seems a bit too groggy, disoriented, confused or slow to refocus after a treatment, s/he may be stabilized and brought quickly to focused consciousness if the treater will again briefly place hands upon the receiver, but with polarity reversed, say, with the right hand to the back of the head and the left hand to the sacrum, for right handed people. This was the genius of Buffy. He knew and used this fine point of artistry as needed, by reversing himself to my flow.

So here are the antics of three loving cats. And now it might well be asked what you have learned from your own or others’ pets in the flow. It’s worth consideration.”

…about Tao

Why do the hundred rivers turn and rush toward the sea?

Because it naturally stays below them

He who wishes to rule over the people must speak as if below them

He who wishes to lead the people must walk as if behind them

So the Sage rules over the people but he does not weigh them down

He leads the people but he does not block their way

The Sage stays low so the world never tires of exalting him

He remains a servant so the world never tires of making him its king

What is a Depth?

Wayne Hackett, one of the Jin Shin Jyutsu instructors, was asked what is a Depth? He responded by saying that “a Depth is a dimension of life, which develops as we go. It is a state of our being.”

When Rima Lurie, a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner from Gold Hill, CO, was asked what is a Depth, she said, “Responding to the question about how I would explain the Depths in Jin Shin Jyutsu, I immediately see a vast body of water. Visualizing as if from within the water, and from the side, I am aware of sunlight hitting the surface, the brilliant upper layers becoming shadowed in increasing graduations downward. Perception of sound waves and temperature varies with distance from the surface, and distinct life-like forms characterize the realms. Without rigid boundaries, unique qualities and layers are evident, each being essential to the existence of the whole. Yet, because of fluidity and overlap among the layers, currents, changes, and circumstances in any one place have ramifications everywhere. A water spider makes subtle rippling waves. A trout rising from the depths catches a fly near the surface, sinks…the ripples spread. Wind strengthens, creating waves; in turn, all the Depths respond.”
