I’m thinking…

…about the Tao

“Surrender brings perfection”
The crooked become straight
The empty become full
The worn become new
Have little and gain much
Have much and be confused

So the Sage embraces the One
and becomes a model for the world
Without showing himself, he shines forth
Without promoting himself, he is distinguished
Without claiming reward, he gains endless merit
Without seeking glory, his glory endures

The Sage know how to follow
so he comes to command
He does not compete
so no one under Heaven can compete with him

The ancient saying,
“Surrender brings perfection,”
is not just empty words
Truly, surrender brings perfection
and perfection brings the whole universe

All About Mary

PROJECT NO. II – ATTITUDES
Attitude is key to our harmony with the universe.
Attitudes: Worry, fear, anger, grief, pretense (cover-up) are all results of disharmony and “run-down” “individualized” energy. Fear is the “core” of all attitudes.

Mary writes: “Revitalizing through the simple usage of the fingers and thumbs to melt away daily fatigue caused through being unaware, or even being aware, but not knowing how to keep from burdening the body with the stress and strain of daily existing and not “LIVING”. The body is affected by the air, food, actions, thoughts, etc., that make up each moment in the Art of Living. It is comforting to know that “tools” we need to be in harmony with the universe, our fingers and thumbs, are with each one of us at all times. We need never fear that we have forgotten or misplaced our fingers and thumbs. Each finger and each thumb are the simple unlocking keys to harmonizing attitudes.”

(I wish to digress for a moment here. I remember a man who had lost 3 fingers from his right hand in an accident. It is a good time to mention that even though a physical part is gone, the energy of that part remains. We’ve all heard of “phantom limb pain”. When someone loses a leg, for instance, they can still feel pain or itching in the toes that are no longer visible. When I work with an amputee, I use my “jumper-cable” hands as though the toes were still there, and “hold” the invisible energetic toe. So if someone, like the man I know, wanted to accomplish Project No. II – Attitudes, he simply holds the place where the physical finger used to be.)

Thumb ~ Worry (depression, hate, obsession, anxiety, self-protection) is an imbalance in our “individualized” stomach and spleen energy pattern.

a. Gently wrap the left thumb and fingers around the right thumb.
b. Gently wrap the left thumb and fingers around the right middle finger.
c. Gently wrap the left thumb and fingers around the right little finger.

The above 3 simple steps revitalize the energy pattern. They remove tensions which cause the attitude of WORRY.

Index Finger ~ Fear (Timidity, mental confusion, depression, perfectionism, criticism, frustration, desire for life) is an imbalance in our “individualized” bladder and kidney energy pattern.

a. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right thumb.
b. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right index finger.
c. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right little finger.

The above 3 simple steps revitalize the energy pattern. They remove tensions which cause the attitude of FEAR.

Middle Finger ~ Anger (Cowardly, irritable, indecisive, unstable, not alert, emotional) is an imbalance in our “individualized” gall bladder and liver energy pattern.

a. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around right little finger.
b. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around right ring finger.
c. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around right middle finger.

The above 3 simple steps revitalize the energy pattern. They remove tensions which cause the attitude of ANGER.

Ring Finger ~ Grief (Negative, mucus forming, common sense) is an imbalance in our “individualized” lung and large intestine energy pattern.

a. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right thumb.
b. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right index finger.
c. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right middle finger.
d. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right ring finger.

The above 4 simple steps revitalize the energy pattern. They remove tensions which cause the attitude of GRIEF.

Little Finger ~ Pretense (cover-up) (Crying on the inside and laughing on the outside, insecure, nervous, confused, mortality) is an imbalance in our “individualized” heart and small intestine energy pattern.

a. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right little finger.
b. Gently wrap left thumb and fingers around the right ring finger.

The above 2 simple steps revitalize the energy pattern. They remove tensions which cause the attitude of PRETENSE (cover-up).

The above is the sequence for the right side energy pattern.
The sequence for the left side of the body is simply in reverse.

JIN SHIN JYUTSU IS. – the Getting to KNOW (Help) MYSELF is not intended to be a substitute for regular medical attention by the recognized medical authorities.

Mary wrote 3 Self-Help Jin Shin Jyutsu Textbooks. It was her passion that people should know how to help themselves. With the permission of Mary’s son, David Burmeister, I will share some basic information from those books; the very same books I use when I am teaching a Self-Help class. I strongly suggest that the reader consider purchasing the three textbooks and implement the recommended flows on a daily basis. Jin Shin Jyutsu

In today’s post “All About Mary” we learn the Source Of Life Self-Help Flow.

I perform this flow daily before I get out of bed…remembering to step out of bed with left foot first on floor…for proper grounding.

After 8 5-day basic classes, I’ve learned more interesting facts about each and every, teeny-tiny aspect of Jin Shin Jyutsu. For interest, the relationship it has with numerology, astrology, astronomy, quantum physics, medicine, meditation….oh, my, the relationships go on and on and on!

The Main Central Vertical Harmonizing Energy (Universal) Self- Help Flow consists of 7 steps. It follows the line of Chakras – from crown chakra #7 (top center of head) to root chakra #1(at the base of the spine).

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, SEL 1 means Prime Mover, General Practitioner/Leader. In numerology, 1 is known as the primal generator and, like SEL 1, is Masculine and signifies unity (among other things) So, while step 1 is not where SEL 1 is located, it has numerology similarities by simply being number 1.

So, if the first step of the Self-Help flow is #1, and step 2 (between the eyebrows) where SELs 20 are located; 2+0=2. Then
Step 3 (tip of nose) is where the 21s are located; 2+1=3.
Step 4 (sternum) is where the 13s are located; 1+3=4.
Step 5 (base of sternum) is where the 14s are located; 1+4=5.
Step 6 (top of pubic bone) is where 15s are located; 1+5=6.
Step 7 (bring hand to coccyx from top of head, 1); 1+5+1-7.

Every page of every text book is purposely numbered by Mary to be meaningful to our awareness and understanding of this Art.

I don’t know about you, but this awareness sent me scurrying to find out more about the relationship between Jin Shin Jyutsu and numerology. Why did Master Jiro number the flows the way he did? Ah, I see this Art requires a lifetime of study!

All About Mary

PROJECT NUMBER 1 ~ SOURCE OF LIFE
Main Central Vertical Harmonizing Energy (Universal)

(This is our Source of Life. We are as harmonious or out of rhythm as is the energy supply from this source.  In fact, this is our present state of being – in health or ailing.)

1a)  Place right finger, fingers or palm on top center of head; this is the “anchor” and will remain here until the last step of the flow

1b)  Place left finger or fingers between the eyebrows

2)    Move left finger or fingers to tip of nose

3)    Move left finger/fingers/palm to the sternum, between the breasts

4)    Move left finger/fingers/palm to the base of the sternum (pit of stomach or solar plexus)

5)    Move left finger/fingers/palm to top of pubic  bone. Leave left hand in this position

6)    Move right finger/fingers/palm to the base of the spine (coccyx)

I suggest you gently hold each position for 2-3 minutes, listening for your pulses. This Self-Help Main Central Flow will help revitalize every part of your body. Mary’s textbook includes Self Help for Supervisors and Mediator revitalization in this Project as well.

Next time we’ll learn Project No. 2 – Attitudes.

Thank you, Mary.

I’m thinking…

…about the Tao

Perfect action,
True virtue,
Supreme power,
This is how Tao is revealed
through those who follow it completely

Though formless and intangible
It give rise to form
Though vague and elusive
It gives rise to shapes
Though dark and obscure
It is the spirit, the essence,
the life-breath of all things
“But is it real?” you ask –
I say its evidence is all of creation!

From the first moment to the present
The Name has been sounding
It is the gate
through which the universe enters
The witness
by which the universe sees
How have I come to know all this?
That very Name has told me,
That Name which is sounding right here,
right now

I’m thinking…

…about the Tao

The difference between a formal “yes”
and a casual “yeah” – how slight!
The difference between knowing the Truth
and not knowing it – how great!

Must I fear what others fear?
Should I fear desolation
when there is abundance?
Should I fear darkness
when that light is shining everywhere?
Nonsense!
The people of this world are steeped in their merrymaking
as if gorging at a great feast
or watching the sights of springtime
Yet here I sit, without a sign,
staring blank-eyed like a child

I am but a guest in this world
While others rush about to get things done
I accept what is offered
Oh, my mind is like that of a fool
aloof to the clamor of life around me
Everyone seems so bright and alive
with the sharp distinctions of day
I appear dark and dull
with the blending of differences by night

I am drifting like an ocean, floating like the high winds
Everyone is so rooted in this world
yet I have no place to rest my head
Indeed I am different…
I have no treasure but the Eternal Mother
I have no food but what comes from her breast

You will find Introducing Jin Shin Jyutsu Is, Book I at http://www.jsjinc.net.

Mary introduces Jin Shin Jyutsu Is on page 1, giving a brief and very interesting history of this healing Art.

On page 5 she asks questions about universal energy to heighten our awareness. What makes the heart beat? What makes breathing possible? What makes digestion possible?

It is our main universal revitalizing energy, which descends the front (anterior) and ascends the back (posterior) of the body. It is our source of life. This energy revitalizes all of our “individualized” body function energy circulation patterns.

The rhythm of this energy cannot be destroyed but abuses to the body knowingly or unknowingly can affect the supply of energy for the proper functioning of “individualized” body function energy circulation patterns.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is the KNOWING of who, what, where, when, why and how the flow of the BATTERY of life can be kept revitalized.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is the knowing of how to revitalize our twelve “individualized” body energy function flows through the universal energy.

Jin Shin Jyutus is the knowing of the 26 “safety energy locks”.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a “built-in” simple art of living.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is simple. It is the awakening of the MYSELF awareness for maintenance of health, happiness, longevity and benevolence. This knowing is endowed equally to all. It is the Creator’s art personally for MYSELF to be utilized with humility and awe, the Getting to KNOW (Help) MYSELF.

Next time we’ll learn Project No. 1 – Source of Life.

I’m thinking…

…about the Tao

Abandon holiness
Discard cleverness
and the people will benefit a hundredfold
Abandon the rules of “kindness”
Discard “righteous” actions
and the people will return
to their own natural affections
Abandon book learning
Discard the rules of behavior
and the people will have no worries
Abandon plots and schemes
Discard profit-seeking
and the people will not become thieves

These lessons are mere elaborations
The essence of my teachings is this:
See with original purity
Embrace with original simplicity
Reduce what you have
Decrease what you want
