Update on NJ Licensing…

Dear Community,
Below are the details of Larry Heisler’s 200 hour training to help those who wish to grandfather into receiving a massage/bodywork license. At this point there is no assurance that the Board will approve Larry’s course. If you have questions, please contact Larry’s office directly. He will need to see evidence that you have 100 hours of JSJ coursework.
If you cannot grandfather as a current practitioner, please know that we will continue to work to modify the law in NJ to allow you to practice. If you have not yet written to your senator, representatives and governor, please do so immediately. Numbers are needed to get their attention.
All my best,
So here are the details from Larry:
You have to have 100 hours of verifiable education in Jin Shin or Healing Touch. The law states to be Grandfathered you need 200 hours of education from a State Approved school or program. Fifty hours of that must be anatomy and physiology and 150 hours of hands on in class instruction. In addition you will need to be working two years full time (15 sessions a week)or five years part time (8 sessions a week). Verification for your work experience is based on the honor system but the board can audit anyone they choose to get verification from. I have never heard of anyone being audited for proof but its in their jurisdiction should they act upon it. If you have taken A+P in college and can get me an official transcript, you do not have to take the A+P portion of the training. When applying for licensure, you will be fingerprinted and back ground checked. If you have a felony on your record that hasn’t been expunged, you might have problems. There are no guarantees when it comes to licensure. The Board grants licenses on a case by case basis, we as a school have no say. All we can do is help you fulfill the requirements.
I am aware of how difficult it might be to find time in your already full time schedule so I apologize for the inconvenience but the dates below are set in stone for now. If we have so many looking to enroll we will try to add additional dates and classes but it might be difficult to accommodate, so first come, first served. The A+P portion (50 hours) of our program will be taught by Mark Carangelo,LMT, director of the American Institute of Alternative Medicine (also a state approved massage school), the Ethics class (7 hours) by Zoe Putnam, M.A., LMT (our regular instructor for Ethics) and the Massage Therapy portion (48 hours) by myself. The tuition is $2,000 or $2060 (credit card) for the entire program and if you have accredited A+P, then the tuition is $1225 or $1262 (credit card). There are only 13 classes in this program so we will have a ZERO TOLERANCE in absenteeism. You cannot miss a class, sorry. Here are the class dates and all classes start at 9 am at the Parsippany Medical Complex. If you have any questions, feel free to call our School Registrar, Kathleen Moran, at 973 263 2229.
